Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Beware of Knock-Off Dolls Online

You may see dolls on website like Ebay, Ali Express, etc. using the same imagery as The Doll House or other authorized retailers, but at 25%-50% of the cost. Since these dolls use the same pictures, you would think that these are the same quality doll, but they are in fact knock-offs.

As these dolls are made in China, and China has a thriving market for knock-off products, this isn't altogether surprising. The tell-tale sign of a knock-off is that it's offered via a shopping platform like Ebay/Ali Express rather than a dedicated website from an authorized retailer.

The picture to the right shows an example of a knock-off doll purchased by someone thinking they were buying a $999 doll for $230. The doll not only looks inferior to the genuine product, but the doll's TPE split in less than a month of use.

TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) is a catch-all for compounds which combine plastic and rubber. Each manufacturer has their own proprietary blend which they use in their dolls. Knock-off dolls use cheap variations of TPE which will not last anywhere near as long as genuine TPE used by authorized manufacturers.

While it may be tempting to think that you can save hundreds of dollars buying the "same" doll elsewhere, if it's too good to be true, it isn't.

TPE "Saturation" Public Service Announcement

TPE is a softer, cheaper, and more realistic alternative to silicone, but it comes at a cost. Like actual human skin, TPE is porous and requires oils to remain soft and supple.

Just like you would rub lotion or ointment on your skin if it became dry or chapped, TPE requires applications of mineral oil and/or petroleum jelly on a semi-monthly bases for the TPE to remain soft and stretchy. Failure to keep the TPE saturated with mineral oil or petroleum jelly will result in dryness and tearing along high-stress areas (such as the vagina, anus, thighs, etc.)

It's recommended that you use petroleum jelly along high-stress areas such as obvious ones like the vagina, anus, and thighs; but also less obvious ones like the knees, elbows, armpits, wrists, etc. Any place where the TPE will be stretched or pulled should be treated with petroleum jelly. The rest of the doll can be rubbed down with mineral oil (which can be found in the baby section as Baby Oil).

If there is tearing, you can use repair glue to rebind the TPE, but if the tearing is extensive, even if the TPE is repaired, it's going to leave a lot of unattractive scarring. You'll either have to buy a replacement doll, or cover up the scarring with some strategically placed lingerie.

Silicone Versus TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer)

Silicone, also known as silicone rubber, is a mixture of silicon polymer with carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) is a mixture of plastic and rubber. Every manufacturer uses their own formula, which means that TPE  is more of a "catch-all" which may include several compounds which differ from manufacturer to manufacturer . This means that TPE quality may vary wildly between manufacturers, especially among "knock-off" brands.

Even high-quality TPE is less expensive to produce than silicone, which means that even high-end TPE dolls are more affordable than those made from silicone.  TPE is becoming more popular, largely as a product of the lower price, but also because it is softer to the touch compared to silicone, and has a more realistic "jiggle factor". However, doll owners say that silicone dolls can sometimes last longer than TPE dolls due to being more resistant to damage.

TPE Pros And Cons

Pros

  • TPE is softer to the touch compared to silicone
  • More elastic and flexible which can handle more positions compared to silicone
  • Retains warmth, but sensitive to excessive heat
  • Cheaper than silicone
  • Skin has a more realistic look compared to silicone
  • Hypoallergenic

Cons

  • More prone to staining than silicone
  • Naturally sticky. This can be fixed by rubbing baby powder or corn starch over the doll
  • Porous. Mold can grow in the doll over time if doll is not cleaned and dried regularly
  • TPE cannot be sterilized
  • Harder to repair compared to silicone
  • TPE requires baby oil and/or petroleum jelly treatments to keep material "saturated" and avoid damage and deterioration.

Silicone Pros And Cons

Pros

  • Allows for greater fine detail in the vagina and anus
  • Less sensative to heat than TPE, but retains less warmth
  • Easier to clean, and can be sterilized
  • More resistant to damage, water, and staining
  • Less required maintaince and easier to repair
  • As silicone is heat resistant, can include integrated heating systems for added realism
  • Hypoallergenic

Cons

  • More expensive than TPE
  • Not as soft as TPE. Feels more like muscle
  • Breasts and booty will not "jiggle"
  • While less sticky than TPE, does require baby powder or corn starch to make smooth
  • While easier to clean than TPE, requires cleaning and can mold if moisture is not dried
  • Skin has an unnatural sheen and looks less realisitc compared to TPE

Clothing and Shoe Sizing Charts

Due to the idealized figures of most dolls, it is very hard to go clothing shopping for them. Even though they are life size, and presumably should fit in normal clothes, almost nothing you buy "off the rack" will fit them correctly unless it is made to be worn loosely, extremely stretchy, or adjustable (like swimsuits with string ties).

Below you'll find some sizing charts to help you figure out the general clothing sizes to buy for your doll.
Remember that with such slim figures and large breasts, even these charts will only have limited utility, and are to be used merely as a guideline.

Your best bet to have an outfit that fits correctly is to get something custom made using the doll's measurements, or to have an outfit altered to your doll's measurements by a tailor.

To find your doll's shoe size, match the doll's foot length to the size charts below. Shoes/boots are recommended for added stability when your doll is in the standing position, and to diguise the bolts of "standing feet". White socks will not stain.
